GIS and Geotagging Training 2018
Pursuant to the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) directive to inventory and monitor both existing and on-going government projects in their areas of jurisdiction, GrIDS’ resource persons were contracted to conduct a series of training to guide local government units (LGUs) in complying with the said order.
Participants in this training were representatives from municipal planning and engineering offices, as well as selected provincial and regional staff of DILG offices. They were introduced to the basic concepts and required skill set about GIS, particularly in digitizing, data editing, and geotagging. The different software used in the training were QGIS, Google Earth, and GeoCam.
The activity made the participants appreciate the use of Geographic Information System and its capability in promoting efficiency and transparency in their respective work assignments, specifically, but not limited to, conducting inventory and monitoring government projects.
These trainings had been conducted from the 4th week of September 2018 up to the 2nd week of October 2018 in the following locations: (a) for DILG Pampanga - in Angeles City on September 24-28, 2018 (45 participants); (b) DILG NCR – in Mandaluyong City on October 1-5, 2018 (50 participants); and (c) DILG Cebu – in Cebu City on October 8-12, 2018 (50 participants).
